Location, Location, Location

We met in Liverpool 11 years ago it’s my home town and the place I love the most. Liverpool will forever have a special meaning to us and who knows one day we might call it home again..

I was certain Liverpool was going to be where we got married no doubt about it, Liverpool was the one, the wedding venue search begins. However… that soon changed after a manic day of visiting 8 venues across the city it was becoming  clear that it wasn’t going to work. This was down to a variety of things;

  • First being that the wedding venue we LOVED wasn’t going to be renewing the wedding licence in 2018 meaning we would need to find a ceremony venue for 100 people on the same day at the right time. This actually didn’t bother me too much as I liked the idea of two separate venues and thought surely there will be plenty of choices..right?

  • Finding a wedding venue in the city centre for a ceremony only within budget just wasn’t going to work. I understand that venues want it all or nothing but I was quite surprised by the cost of some of these venues to hire for an hour, the venue I really likes wanted £2,500+VAT for hire of the ceremony room and a glass of prosecco per person!! so that was obviously a no.

  • Hidden costs were also a popular occurrence with another venue sending details over of a reduced “room rate” but with another cost of £335 as a ceremony rate which coincidentally added up to the overall rate before discount…another no.. plus the chairs were ugly and we all know my feelings on chair covers.

NEVERMIND.. let’s keep looking and off I went to my favourite stalking device Instagram. Fast forward to me searching high and low at venues across the North West I came across Holmes Mill a venue in the Ribble Valley a place I’m not familiar with at all but I knew we had to go and see it. They were hosting a wedding open day at the end of that month which was handy, the excitement started to build and I had a really great feeling about it.

An hour from both Liverpool & Manchester we arrived at Holmes Mill and it was everything I had hoped from my online stalking, I even contacted a girl who got married there earlier this year and asked her a load of questions. Thankfully she didn’t think it was too weird of me and happily gave me her honest & glowing review win win.

The wedding venue is beautiful a former textile mill that’s been transformed into a unique venue that comprises of a brewery, food hall and boutique hotel take a peek..

We met the lovely Ellie one of the wedding coordinators who went over everything with us while we enjoyed a glass of fizz. We reserved our date, had a canape or two and well.. we booked our wedding! A nice, stress free experience.

So far I couldn’t recommend Holmes Mill enough the whole experience has been stress free, easy to deal with and overall a dream! As I work in a venue planning events I am quite fussy I can come across quite particular but I just want things to be done right, don’t we all? Ellie and the team have been lovely and I’m really looking forward to working with them over the next 12 months in the lead up to our big day.
