The Mills & Boon Modern Girl’s Guide to Growing Old DisgracefullyThis beautiful and hilarious hardback gift book features fun, feisty and feminist annotations to hilarious vintage photographs that would make the perfect present for a mother, daughter, best friend or soon-to-be-bride, particularly as a gift for a Hen Weekend .

Here are some highlights ;

The Mills & Boon Modern Girl’s Guide to Growing Old Disgracefully is also the perfect gift for any woman who is getting older. Packed with indispensable tips for embracing the onset of ageing, from how to know if you are attending an actual ‘dinner party’, to the indignity of not getting ID-ed in Asda, and covering crucial topics including causing havoc in the National Trust gift shop, and losing your temper with the lady from ‘customer services’.

The book is a hilarious catalogue of those ladies who are letting go of their boring, well-behaved younger self and embracing their adventurous, naughty side.

Readers may include some of the following:

  • Those who have treated afternoon tea as an ‘all you can eat opportunity’
  • Those who have realised they only ever hoover these days when they are expecting guests
  • Those who flatly refuse to ‘act their age’

The Review

I read the book and I can totally see how any ‘bride to be’ or ‘gal pal’ would like this  book as part of their bridal booty bag filler. The images reflect each tip perfectly and  sadly (weeps a bit into my brew and not the vino whilst writing this !)  there were a few I could resonate with.

Here were my fav tips;

  1. Over – sentimental : I cry all the time at random acts of kindness!! one time that sticks in my mind is when I saw my friend (a sales assistant at the time) speak sign language to some customers, no lie there were tears right there, the customers were so made up it made my day. Cue a great big hug for Craig and a wet right shoulder….haha!
  2. Cleanliness : especially the line “The authorities haven’t stuck a biohazard sign on the door yet so basically everything is fine”….lol
  3. Bucket List :Goes something like this ‘ Swim with  Dolphins // Learn to play the ukulele //Take romantic holiday in Paris with exotic lover// Find exotic lover // Go on an ostrich ride ( see picture in gallery explains everything) //  Set realistic life goals’…..nuff said!

Whomever, there is a tip for the young lady, middle aged woman and the Granny of the group.  Needless to say it’s a hit with Bridal Chic in the City and we have 5 of these bad boys to giveaway.

“Ada Adverse” was brought up in a deeply puritanical household where looking at a cake was considered a decadence punishable by a night in the coal cellar. But at fifteen she ran away from home and is now the world’s leading authority on Having Fun, which is definitely an actual job, she has ‘Fungineer’ printed on her business cards to prove it. Ada’s hobbies include topiary, mazes, homing pigeons, flea circuses, embalming things, tattoos, pylons, and the films of Billy Wilder. Ada’s dislikes include predatory macaws and getting out of the wrong side of bed.
