When you’re planning a wedding there’s so much to think about.

  • Where you’re wedding celebrations should take place?
  • What type of venue you should go for?
  • What sort of vibe you want to have…?

So what happens if you just can’t decide between city or suburban, alternative or traditional, simple or extravagant?
Well, the answer is simple…have an engagement shoot too and you can do both!

Claire & Mathew are getting married in Worsley next year – a place they both love. They will celebrate their marriage on Claire’s birthday with a church ceremony and a wedding reception in a beautiful tudor-style venue. But they also love all things quirky and creative, from the iconic graffiti of the Northern Quarter to playing video games in Affleck’s Palace. We decided to try and capture that side of their relationship with an alternative Manchester engagement shoot.

Reasons to consider having an engagement shoot:

1. Have a practice run with your wedding photographer. This is a great opportunity to get to know your photographer, to learn how they work and even pick up a few tips ahead of the day so you know what to expect. It’s also helpful for your photographer to understand what you’re comfortable with and how to get the best out of you.

2. There’s somewhere that holds a special place in your hearts. You might love being beside the sea or countryside walks. You might have a favourite park or a special place where you got engaged. This is an opportunity to capture memories in a place that means something to you that might not be possible to incorporate in your big day.

3. You’d like to include photos in other aspects of your wedding. Why not use your engagement shoots for your save the dates or wedding invites, or as part of your wedding décor on the day.

“We had a fantastic day, scooting around the sights of the Northern Quarter, looking for interesting viewpoints and posing for our snaps! We love Manchester and we were so happy that Amy was able to capture that as the same time as our love for each other!” – Claire & Mathew
