Metallic dresses

As you can see here, for brides, and their bridesmaids shimmery dresses are big this year. They are special, fun and glamorous.

Bold colours

The pastels of last year have largely given way to a much brighter colour palette. Some brides and grooms are going all the way and choosing to wear electric blue, purple and hot colours like pink or red. Others are still going with lighter colours or white, but accessorising with bright colours.

Removable skirts

A particularly interesting trend is the emergence of two outfit wedding dresses. Some designers have come up with clever ways to allow the bride to reduce the number of layers she is wearing, or shorten her dress by removing the skirt section. A popular combination is a sheath dress that is transformed into a ball gown style of dress when the skirt is added.

Grand reception entrances

The first dance is still an important part in the celebrations, but increasingly the reception entrance is becoming the showpiece of the reception. Some brides and grooms are dancing in, arranging flash mobs or simply adding a bit of flash and sparkle with the help of lights, sparklers, confetti bombs, or balloon drops.

Help yourself guest favours

Rather than give each guest the same party favour, many brides and grooms are putting together a help yourself gift lounge for their guests to enjoy. That way you can be sure that everyone gets to take home something they like.

Adventurous gift lists

Rather than ask for traditional home ware style gifts many couples are adding more unusual items to their gift lists. Items like show tickets, subscriptions and charity donations are all popular options.

High tech wedding photos and videos

Most people still choose to hire a professional photographer to provide a record of their special day, and ask their friends and families to take as many photos and videos as possible. Many are taking the next step and setting up a cloud account, so that each guest can upload their snaps and footage for everyone to see.

Live streamed wedding ceremonies

More and more brides and grooms are taking hotels, and other venues up on the offer to have a live stream of the ceremony. They are a great option for those who have family and friends living abroad. It’s also a great idea to get the big day filmed by a professional Videographer as this is a great keepsake for all the family to re live the special day.

Quirky wedding cakes

Tiered wedding cakes are still very much in vogue, but increasing the way each tier is constructed is far from traditional. Pictures of doughnut, cupcake and cookie wedding cakes are appearing across the web. This Golden Girls wedding cake is super quirky made with love from Little Button Bakery .

Interactive wedding feasts & drinks.

Increasingly the traditional sit down meal is being replaced by a movable feast. Food trucks, help yourself food bars, cocktail hours, hog roasts, huge barbecue grills filled with all kinds of food, and other ways to feed guests are all being tried out this year. You can get more unusual wedding banquet ideas, from this page or take a look at this cute little Gin truck pictured here by The Little Gin Company I mean how super cool would this be at your wedding.
